Messaging - Coaches (Mobile App)

Send messages to PGA Jr. League families using the PGA Coach Mobile App

Written by Camp Murphy

This article explains how Coaches can use the PGA Coach Mobile App to send messages to: The app primarily facilitates communication with parents and guardians, not directly with players.

  • Individual parents or guardians

  • Entire Teams

  • Full Programs

➡️ Note: Coaches can also send messages directly from the PGA Jr. League Dashboard. For more information, see the article Messaging – Coaches (PGA Jr. League Dashboard).

How Messaging Works in the PGA Coach App

Messaging allows Coaches to communicate directly with families linked to their Programs and Teams. Messages are delivered in-app and notify parents and guardians associated with each player, including additional guardians. It is important to note that this communication system focuses on guardians and parents, not the players themselves.

How to Send Messages Using the PGA Coach App

Open the PGA Coach App

  • Launch the PGA Coach Mobile App on your device

Access Messages

  • Tap the Messages icon in the bottom navigation bar

  • You’ll see a list of your existing conversations (your message inbox)

Start a New Conversation

Create a New Message

  • Tap the “+” icon in the upper-right corner

Message an Individual

  • Search for and select the individual’s name

  • Tap their name to start a one-to-one conversation

Message a Group

  • Select “Create New Group Message”

  • Check the boxes next to the contacts you want to include

  • Send your message to the selected group

Automatic Group Messaging (Recommended)

To make communication easier, the app automatically creates messaging groups for:

  • Your entire Program

  • Each individual Team within that Program

These groups:

  • Include all parents and guardians, including additional guardians

  • Update automatically as rosters change

  • Help ensure no families are missed

Best Practice: Use automatic Program or Team groups whenever possible to ensure complete communication coverage.

How to Use Automatic Group Messages

Automatic group messages appear directly in your Messages inbox, alongside your other conversations.

Because of this, they may not look like “new” messages at first — but they are ready to use at any time.

You can access them in two ways:

Option 1: Scroll to Find the Group

  • Open the Messages tab

  • Scroll through your message list

  • Look for conversations with names that directly match your Program name or Team name

  • Tap the group to open it and compose a message

Option 2: Search by Program or Team Name (Recommended)

  • Tap the search bar at the top of the Messages screen

  • Start typing the name of your Program or Team

  • Select the matching group conversation from the results

  • Send your message

This is the fastest way to locate the correct group, especially if you have many conversations.

Best Practice

Use these automatically created Program or Team groups whenever possible to ensure complete communication coverage and avoid missing any families.

Helpful Notes

  • Messaging is available only in the PGA Coach Mobile App

  • Messages are tied to Program and Team access

  • Parents and guardians receive messages in the MyPGA app

Additional Communication Options Using the PGA Coach Platform

While the PGA Coach Mobile App specializes in messaging parents and guardians, the PGA Coach platform provides additional tools for broader communication.

For example:

Sending Emails to Parents and Guardians

  • Coaches can send emails by maintaining active team rosters

  • Rosters are created when players are added to a Program

  • Messaging through the app is typically the fastest way to reach families

Accessing Past Rosters

  • Log into the Coach Dashboard

  • Navigate to the “Past Programs” section

  • Use filters to locate specific program years and rosters

Troubleshooting Account or Data Access Issues

  • Ensure you are using the correct account (especially when switching between program years)

  • Check dropdown menus or filters that may affect visible roster data
